Get Involved at Camp!

Volunteer

This is a very popular and well-attended event, so we only have a limited number of work-exchange volunteer positions each year, with an expectation of approximately 10 hours of volunteer work during the 4-day event. Please use the Camp Registration to register as a volunteer, and list your qualifications and contact information. Please consider this “registration” process as an application. We will contact you if we have room and need of your abilities.

Volunteer/Work-Exchange Selection

Returning SOMA Camp volunteers will be given a priority as it reduces the training required and makes for a smoother, more cohesive camp when we have individuals who know what needs to be done, how to do it, and have proven their reliability. For new SOMA Camp volunteers the process is FIFO (first in, first out) though we do give priority to student volunteers. We will also be giving a higher priority to applicants with more availability and applicants who can perform multiple volunteer tasks.

Requirements and expectations

  • Membership: Every volunteer MUST be a member of SOMA. You will not be considered for work exchange unless you are a registered SOMA member and your membership is valid through January 2025. 

  • The volunteer coordinator will contact you after you register/apply.

  • Onsite cabins are available to volunteers for a $150+fees, we plan to put at 8-10 volunteers per cabin using both upper bunks and lower bunks. Or you can stay offsite or in your RV/Camper. Tent camping is not allowed (and it’s likely to be raining and cold!). We are charging for on site cabins because CYO has doubled our camp costs this year.

  • All meals are included.

  • Your volunteer schedule permitting, you’ll have equal access to lectures, workshops, and forays when you’re not working your designated tasks.

  • If your availability to attend Camp changes for unforeseen reasons, please notify the volunteer coordinator as soon as possible.

Vendors

Want have a table at SOMA camp?

Vendors must pay an up-front fee of $200.00 which includes all meals during the event and you are welcome to attend lectures and forays if you don’t mind leaving your table unattended. Vendors will be in the main hall, and each vendor has 8 feet of space along the East wall of the main hall. Due to space limitations, we plan to allow approximately 8 vendors this year, so please register right away. These spots will fill up quickly. Presenters and authors who wish to sell a few items may sell them through the bookstore without having a designated space.

  • There is no longer a 10% gross sales fee.

  • Please bring your own table(s) for your 8-foot space and a cloth to cover your table when you’re not there.

  • Please store valuables securely; SOMA cannot take responsibility for your lost items.

  • Helpers for sales are OK. Please list their names when you register, but its expected that only one person would be onsite at your table and partake in meals, except for setup/cleanup.
