The Dec 20 Salt Point foray is rescheduled for Sunday Jan 4th at Stump Beach day use area at 10am.
Please do NOT go to Woodside Campground!
It WILL be raining - but not too much. Mushrooms need rain!
Humantix Registration is open now!
Also, Liz went to the park a few days ago and says the "winter trio” is in full force!
The Winter Trio:
Black Trumpet (Craterellus calicornucopioides): Dark, hollow, trumpet-shaped, with a rich, smoky, and woodsy flavor, often found near oaks and mossy areas.
Yellowfoot Chanterelle (Craterellus tubaeformis): Also called "tubies," with a hollow stalk (yellowish to brownish) and blunt ridges, excellent for pickling or sautéing.
Hedgehog Mushroom (Hydnum oregonense): Meaty with unique teeth-like spines on the underside instead of gills, offering a nutty flavor.
Where & When to Find Them:
Habitat: Primarily in Northern California's coastal forests, under conifers (pines, firs) and hardwoods like oaks, and tanoaks, after significant rain.
Season: Winter, especially during wet periods.
